Daffodil Festival

Believe it or not Spring is on the way (as of 12:15pm, Tuesday March 3/20 to be exact). After a winter of frozen waves and record cold and snow it nice to look forward to longer days and warmer temps. Whether you're a local or visitor to this great island Spring on Nantucket can't be missed. The annual Nantucket Daffodil Festival is a favorite among locals and visitors.

If you took a car show, mixed in a parade, live entertainment, a massive picnic, a costume party and a feeling of relief that Spring is here, you would get the basics of what Daffodil Festival is. This years festival kicks off on April 27th and runs through the 29th. The first Daffy, as it is called, was a very simple affair in the 1970s. It included an antique car parade in which islanders showed off their classic cars, followed by a community tailgate picnic in 'Sconset. Now, more than three decades later, the Daffodil Festival on Nantucket includes art shows, tours, parades (including the antique car parade and tailgate picnic), exhibitions, contests, lectures, and, of course, the annual Nantucket Daffodil Flower Show. There are activities for all ages, and faithful festival-goers dress up for the occasion and participate enthusiastically! There is a Daffy Hat Contest, a Children's Parade featuring decorated bikes, strollers, wagons, and other self-propelled vehicles. The Pine Woods Morris Dancers often perform throughout the day at various locations. (check out http://daffodilfestival.com for more details)
